Since the book and subsequent movie, "The Secret' has become a popular phenomenon, misconceptions and myths have proliferated. This article debunks the three most common misconceptions/myths.
Myth: Manifesting is a complicated secret and mysterious activity.
Fact: Manifesting is in motion at all times whether you are doing anything or not or whether you are consciously aware of what you are manifesting. Doing nothing is manifesting something. It is manifesting your relaxation, or you are procrastinating. In procrastination you are manifesting what you do not desire, rather than what you desire.
For example if you eat Crispy Cream donuts for breakfast every day with no other nutrition until lunch, you could manifest obesity, diabetes or other body dysfunctions. While you might not consider that having a poor nutrition plan is 'manifesting,' these body dysfunctions, it is the basis of creating something--a result. Manifesting brings a result.
Every thought you have, every word you utter, every action you take is manifesting something, albeit you might not see the results until weeks, months or years later. Using the Crispy Cream donut example, obesity, diabetes or other body dysfunctions take months or years to manifest. Therein, lies, the disbelief, between actions and what is manifested, because the majority of people expect manifesting to be a 'quick return on effort.'
The same physical rules apply for everyone, however the same set of rules appear differently for each person. A person could manifest diabetes in only six months after eating Crispy Cream donuts every morning, whereas, for another person it might take two years to manifest a body dysfunction, but it might not be diabetes.
Myth: Manifesting takes too much time.
Fact: How can that be when everything you think, say and do manifests something? Since everything you think, say and do manifests something, the key is deciding what you want to manifest and then think the thoughts, speak the words and take the actions toward what you desire to manifest. Shifting these three actions in line with what you want to manifest does not take any additional time or effort.
Thus, given that you are manifesting something at all times, deciding what you desire is the first step to manifesting your goals.
• Make a list of your desires - short and long term goals.
• Make a list of what you want to achieve in the next two/three years.
• Make a list of your life dreams/desires when the children are raised, and/or your retirement, etc.
• Develop a written blueprint to achieve your desires/dreams.
As you develop your blueprint, you have begun to manifest your dreams/desires. The majority of people fail in life in general and business intentions in particular, because they fail to create the blueprint that will create their desires. Being busy does not mean you are manifesting your desires, but, rest assured you are manifesting something. But you will manifest something in the act of failing to plan. Make sure you have a plan to manifest your desires. "Failing to plan is planning to fail." -Alan Lakein.
Myth: If you don't like how it is, Change it.
Fact: You can not change what you do not like. When you focus your attention on what you do not like rather than the solution or what you desire, you are manifesting what you do not like/desire. The first step is to accept What IS. What IS, is What Is. Take full ownership of What IS, because What Is, is not separate and apart from you. You had a part in What IS becoming What IS. Understand that What IS is a result of your thoughts, words and actions, even if you do not comprehend when or how you became a part. Remember the example of the Crispy Cream Donut.
To shift What IS, let go of any frustration, anger, or sadness you hold towards yourself and others with regard to What IS. Forgive yourself even though you may not know how or what you did to create What IS. Forgive others even though you may not know how or what they did to create What IS. Everyone is doing his/her best to find his/her path or manifest desires, albeit in a convoluted manner. The What IS is not necessarily the bad thing you have been indoctrinated to believe.
What IS (and understanding it) is how you learn to move on through life. Simply accept that your past and current actions did not lead to the results that you expected. You can move beyond, around or pass through What IS.
After you accept What IS you have gained a neutral perspective towards What IS and can seek to take a new approach to manifest what you desire. Being neutral means that when you think about What IS, no other thoughts or feelings come up. Neutral means whatever you believe about What IS, in the moment, means no feelings arise.
Myth: If reaching your desires/dreams is difficult and you become discouraged it just wasn't meant to be. Therefore, the desire/dream was wrong or it was not God's will.
Fact: Everyone has the best intentions when they embark on a quest to reach a goal. Everyone puts in their best effort and believes in their goals and dreams. However, when little or nothing seems to change, many people become frustrated and discouraged. They begin to believe that it is not meant to be or that God does not want them to experience this particular goal. They then look for excuses why their dreams did not manifest.
Ultimately they give up - they admit to themselves that they obviously did not have what it takes to achieve a now seemingly impossible goal. This is the moment when dreams evaporate, where goals become a part of history that nobody will see. Being discouraged is not failure, it simply means that your expectations are ahead of the blueprint plan.
Having no dreams or goals is the second most prevalent reason why people never fulfill their desires. Many people have wishes, such as: "I wish____." You can fill in the blank with anything that comes to mind and it has probably been said by hundreds of people.
Thus, it is important to state your dreams and goals in writing and develop a blueprint to achieve them. It is important to hold your intention and stay connected with it at all times. When your ego gets too involved, i.e. negative self-talk is coming into your mind, you will need to intentionally set your ego aside allowing it to be an observer as you go about manifesting each step of your blueprint. Allow yourself ample time and space to let your intentions manifest in its own way and under its own conditions. Understand that the more people your intentions benefit, the more likely your desires/dreams will come to fruition.
Last, but not least, create fun while manifesting your desires. Enjoy the journey. Enjoy being a beginner every step in the process of manifesting your desires/dreams.
