Success with Hypnosis

self improvement

The purpose of this articler is to help you avoid feelings of frustration and failure when working with hypnosis and to help you succeed with your goals.

Every once in a while I'd get emails from people who tell me how they've been working on some goal with self-hypnosis for several months, and even for years and they've got no results at all. There are also people who create a goal that is way beyond their ability level and decide they'll try hypnosis for one week only and if it doesn't work, they'll conclude that hypnosis doesn't work.

Some people hearing that all that they need to do is persist, do indeed persist on working on their goals, but persist in doing it the wrong way and consequently don't get any results. Repeating a behavior that doesn't bring results, is much like a fly trying to get out through the closed window, and hitting against the closed window until it drops dead.

So, here I'd like to offer a few pointers that will help you to succeed with whatever you may be doing with hypnosis. I'd also like to point out that life is a process, not an end result. And every area of life you may be choose to focus on while working with hypnosis, is also a process and is subject to change. Every moment of your life you are making decisions and choosing among different choices, through your thoughts and actions, moving either closer or further away from where you'd like to be, from what you'd like to experience.

The first step in getting anywhere is having a clear idea of where you'd like to be, what you'd like to experience, and engaging in thought processes and actions that will get you there. Even though there may be many different ways of getting the same outcome, some are faster, some are slower and some will never get you to the outcome you had in mind. It is important to pay attention to the feedback you are getting and to notice are you moving closer to your destination or further away. Is what you are doing working for you, or it isn't. If it isn't, there may be something you need to change.

In order to be able to assess your progress, or lack of it, it is important to formulate your goals in some specific and measurable way. If you were going to university, even though it may take you five years to get your degree, with each successfully passed exam you know that you are moving closer. If you were working on shedding hundred pounds of weight from your body, you know you're making progress with each pound you got rid off. If you are working on financial abundance, you know you're making progress when you see more money coming in and when you see your bank-account growing.

I did mention in one of the previous newsletters that you can accomplish anything by using your mind power - however, what may be a realistic immediate goal and expectation for one person and what may be realistic immediate goal for another may be vastly different. If the goal you have picked to work on seems to be too good to be true for you, then it probably is and you should back-track a few steps. Actually, you should backtrack as many steps as necessary until you arrive at a point where you know that the immediate goal is t and achievable by you. Then you can engage in any learnings and skill development you need to move on to the next step.

If you insist on working on a goal that is way beyond your league, way beyond your current understanding and skill development, you'll only end up frustrated. That goal that is way beyond your league, may be within your reach one day, if you choose to gain understanding and develop skills that will make that goal believable and achievable by you.

Sometimes people engage in self-hypnosis, let's say to work on prosperity and while they are engaging in self-hypnosis, they are doing everything right - they are engaging in imagining and feeling themselves as prosperous and totally financially free. That's what happens during the half hour. The problem is that as soon as they are done with self-hypnosis session, they engaging in all sorts of habitual worries associated with money - such as "oh, my God, where am I going to get money to pay those bills" - not realizing that they are in that way undoing whatever they were working on creating during that half-an-hour self-hypnosis session. As soon as self-hypnosis session is over, they return to imagining and feeling as financially broke and poor - not realizing that whenever you engage your imagination and feelings in the process, you are in effect engaging in self-hypnosis.

While hypnosis, subliminal and supraliminal recordings work on programming one's subconscious mind - one's conscious mind is also a player in the game. The habitual thoughts that go through your conscious mind will also become impressed upon your subconscious. So, it's important that you use your conscious mind to choose what you will and won't allow to be present in your mind. While this does take an additional mental effort in learning to take control over your thinking process, the results you will get will be much faster.

As you keep your destination, your goal, clearly in your awareness, all you need to do is ask yourself before engaging in any mental contemplation or action - will that way of thinking, and will that action bring you closer to your destination or will it take you further away from it?

While the path that leads toward the accomplishment of your goal may feel a little bit uncomfortable at times, merely due to lack of familiarity with it and engaging in a different way of living your life, it should at the same time be enjoyable, and make you feel good. The feeling good part comes from having your own good reason of engaging in the process. A person lifting weights may feel some discomfort, but he also feel good knowing that he's getting something in return for all the effort invested, from pushing his own boundaries, from expanding his comfort zone, from gaining new strength. You can always grow and expand your boundaries in a way that suits your abilities and your desires, without feeling deprived, tormented or like a martyr in the process.

Achievement of different goals may require different thought processes, different action, different skill level. Some may be easy to achieve and may not require much alteration in your life-style, while some may be require a world-view, development of skills and a life-style that is very different from anything you have experienced before. Your motivation in achieving particular goals will determine whether you're willing to do what it takes, whether you are willing to even drop all of your beliefs and pre-conceived ideas if necessary to get there, and to engage in gradual development of skills that may be required or not.

When using self-hypnosis, there are goals that you may be able to accomplish almost immediately and then, there are others that may take weeks, months and years to accomplish. If you are working on a goal may take years to accomplish, the only way to avoid frustration is by dividing it into smaller, clearly defined steps, which allow you to measure your progress on week to week, or at least month-to-month basis. With each step you make, you will feel successful and will be more motivated to continue in pursuing your goal.

There are people who look upon self-hypnosis and the forms of hypnosis labeled as different forms of magick - whether it deals will calling upon spirits, angels, God, or whoever, as an easy way out - a way to reap the benefits without much investment of personal effort of any kind. It doesn't work that way in the long run. It may work on a very temporary basis. Sooner or later comes the payback time - because the gifts received do not really belong to the individual, they were only loaned, and as anything loaned must be returned. A wise individual will use this loan, as a custodian of it, for the benefit of all and in this way will have even direct benefit. A not-so-wise individual may attempt to use it solely for his own benefit, only to find out later on that he is in much worse off later on. One may say that these "gifts" are given as a test of individual's responsibility and for the purpose of learning and growth. As I mentioned in one of the earlier newsletters, there is always an exchange of energy and there is no such thing as getting something for nothing.

A person may learn to use his mind-power to generate the energy and to create desired outcomes, but in this case the thing received didn't come out of nothing, it came out of individual's own effort, out of individual's learning to use his mind-power and energy responsibly.

Altering few thoughts in one's mind can make a drastic difference in one's experience of life. It takes just as much energy to think a thought "I am rich", as it takes to think a thought "I am poor", together with expectations of experiences that will act as "proof" of these statements in one's daily life.

However, it does take a little bit more effort to pay attention to one's habitual thoughts and expectations until this new pattern of thinking settles in one's conscious and subconscious mind and the individual generates enough "proofs" in his daily life that will validate this statement so that it becomes established as a "belief" - as one's "truth", automatically attracting into that individual's daily experience of life whatever matches that belief.

The tools and techniques of hypnosis are intended to be used to help the person unleash, develop and express latent talents and abilities, to overcome limitations, and yes, to learn to play with energy, with life-force, in a responsible way - for the purpose of personal and spiritual growth, living a balanced and harmonious life, and experiencing wellbeing and fulfillment in life.

To ensure that you'll achieve successful results with self hypnosis:

*Decide what is your outcome and make it measurable, so that you know when you have achieved it.

* Make sure that you truly want to experience this outcome, and that you're willing to commit yourself to realizing it.

*If the goal is too big for you, divide it into smaller steps that are achievable by you

* Make sure that your belief system supports your goal. If you don't believe it's possible for you, then work on a smaller goal that you know is possible for you to achieve.

In the meantime work on your belief system, and gather all the information and evidence you need to move onto the next step. In other words, before you choose to move mountains with your mind, make sure you can move feathers; before you decide that you absolutely must have one million dollars to your name, work on creating one thousand; before you work on shapeshifting your body so it looks like a Roman God, make sure you're able to use your mind power to heal a headache or move your bowels if you're constipated; before you decide to work on controlling other people's behaviors and taking over the world, make sure you can control your own thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. You get the idea.

*Acknowledge every progress you make, no matter how small.

*Pay attention to your thoughts and emotions and notice how they are shaping your reality, even when you are not intending the outcome; then experiment with intending the outcome, and notice the results you're getting.

*Acknowledge the changes you have created, even when they manifest in a way that may be different than what you anticipated. Maybe you wanted to win the lottery, or have money manifest out of thin air in your hands or on your kitchen table, and instead someone offered you a job opportunity. It's up to you whether you want to accept the job opportunity or not - but realize that it is an effect, a manifestation of what you were programming in your mind and your current beliefs. You may then want to work on changing your beliefs, while continuing to program your mind, and if you really need money badly - accepting the job offer.

*Developing mind power and your ability to get more out of hypnosis is like developing any other skill. The more you use it, the more skillful and powerful you become. If you practice regularly, you're bound to make greater and greater progress, and achieve greater and greater success with self-hypnosis.

* Do note that even if you are working with a hypnotist or NLP Master Practitioner, who may help you to achieve your goals faster, depending on the skills they have developed and the techniques they may be using, when helping you to create a desired change, they are still working with your subconscious mind, with your beliefs and the attainment of specific goals may still take a lot of time. Even the famous Dr. Milton Erickson, invested over 400 hours with some people, just helping them to learn how to get into a trance. Just because a hypnotist may help you along the way, it doesn't mean you'll always get instant results - though sometimes, particularly when you are truly motivated to have a specific change and your belief system completely supports it, instant results are possible, but be prepared to invest as much time as necessary to reach your goals. It does get easier with practice, and you do get faster results as you learn to get in and out of trance just by intending it and as you develop proficiency in using your mind power. And above all, it's worth the effort.
