Is The Lawyer a Motorists Best
Friend?
For a normal law abiding citizen, using a lawyer
when having trouble with the police is quite easily
avoided in everyday life. Easy, that is, until they
get into a car. Your vehicle can be the easiest way
to fall foul of the law, sometimes even though you
are innocent of any wrong doing, which is why it is
a good idea to have the number of a good lawyer
besides that of your mechanic and breakdown
service.
The first area of concern will be parking. It is
so easy to to get into bother when parking your car
as the parking regulations differ so widely and not
every single rule and regulation is displayed. You
can even find different regulations on each side of
a street. Where you are dealing with local
councils, a simple letter may suffice and a lawyer
may only be needed if the case escalates or if your
car is towed away. Off street parking is where a
lawyer can be of greater assistance as there are so
many different ways you can be caught. There are
some clamping companies that use some very nasty
ways to trap your car and extract a huge sum of
money from you. You now have to take care when
visiting MacDonalds and other fast food outlets,
even motorway service stations have
restrictions.
Insurance can be another area where a lawyer
could be usefull. In the UK insurance companies
normally inform a police data bank when a person
insures their car with them, that way the police
only need to place a camera beside the road to
catch all the people driving without insurance. The
problem is that the insurance companies are not
that quick in informing the police which has
resulted in a number of cars being towed away and
some even being crushed. This will require a good
lawyer should you be caught up in this.
There are a number of other, more serious
motoring offences where a lawyer could be valuable,
especially if your licence is on the line. These
are the areas where a full knowledge of the law is
essential and you will need a lawyer to take you
through this minefield.
Finally, there are the accidents. Lifes little
biffs and bangs that can really ruin your day.
Normally all these are covered by your insurance
company but you may need to employ your own lawyer
if you are the victim of this scam where somebody
deliberately stops abruptly infront of you, then
sues you as everybody in his car has 'suffered' a
whiplash injury. This is a growing crime and your
insurance company may just want to settle rather
than fight it and you end up paying more for your
insurance. A good lawyer may keep your record
clean.
