Izod Clothing

Decades ago it was popular to wear collared shirts with a small green alligator on the front. The green alligator is the logo for Izod clothing, and I’ve recently noticed that people are starting to wear them again. But it wasn’t until I went to the local flea market that I realized that Izod clothing is making a comeback.

There is a strange phenomenon happening at flea markets lately. There is always a large bunch of tables set up with trendy designer knock-offs of clothing, sunglasses, jewelry and handbags. The handbags are the biggest seller, and when I decided that I wanted a Kate Spade diaper bag, but didn’t want to spend three hundred dollars on something I would be using to transport diapers and cheerios, I decided to buy one at the flea market.

While I was there I also bought a Prada bag and two pairs of Chanel sunglasses. The total cost for everything was only forty-eight dollars, so I’m pretty certain that none of it is genuine. The good thing about the cheap knock-offs is that they look just as great as the designer versions, at only a fraction of the cost. When I recently spilled a coffee into my Kate Spade diaper bag, and couldn’t get the stain out with water, I simply drove down to the flea market and bought another one.

One thing I noticed while I was shopping the last time was an entire table filled with Izod clothing, including the retro collared shirts with the alligator in the corner I remember wearing when I was a child. And even more interesting were the groups of teenagers hovered around the tables rifling through the clothes. If something is trendy, the first group of people who will start wearing or using it is teenagers. They pay attention to fashion in a way that adults just don’t, and they’re the best indicator of whether something is hot and trendy.

I was holding my Kate Spade bag and looking over at what was going on over at the Izod clothing table with interest, debating whether or not I should pick up some new Izod clothing for myself. In the end I decided against it because I doubt that Izod clothing is so expensive that I could justify buying a knockoff. And I’m going to need a little time to warm up to the Izod clothing trend again, since it still carries so many memories from the seventies for me.
