Treating Acne On Dark Skin

Some people say to me that while on Sun holidays in the likes of Spain or Greece they notice that the people there seem to have perfect skin and don't seem to suffer from any skin ailments such as acne.

This may seem so but, skin color has nothing to do with acne.

You may not be able to see the redness and skin damage as easily on dark skin people as you would on fairer skin people but that does not mean that its less of a serious condition.

Skin color is irrelevant when it comes to treating acne. Whats most important is that you get the best type of treatment for your type of acne.

White people can burn very easily and need to take extra care to use proper non oil based sun protector on top of their acne while out in the sun.

Sun block should be used no matter how dark or fair your skin is. Lots of acne medications make your skin even more sensitive to sun. The minimum factor sun block you should use is factor 15.

Pomade acne is the one type of acne that only effects those of African heritage. Usually the root of pomade acne is caused by oil based hair straightening products. Care should be take when using these products to use keep them away from facial skin.

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is an acne related skin condition that only effects dark skin people. This is only a temporary condition which causes the darkening of the skin after an acne break out.

The first step in treating your acne no matter what your skin type should be visiting a dermatologist. Getting the right initial advice on diet and potential allergies is vital.
