The second is to exfoliate, yes you probably do exfoliate your face, but now you have to exfoliate your body. As you will be aware, the skin is constantly renewing its self so that the very top layer consists of dead and dying cells. Good for a fake tan but we are going for the real thing. What you will need is either castor sugar or sea salt. something that has some edge to it and an oil, either olive oil, wheat germ oil or some other essential oil. There are also a selection of exfoliating mitts or brushes you can use instead, this will not only get rid of the dead cells but will stimulate the growth of new cells and improve the blood flow which is good to promote skin regeneration which will be your canvas of your perfect new tan.
After exfoliating, in the shower if possible, you should moisturise all over which will help to keep your skin hydrated which is vital for a healthy all over tan.
Once you have arrived at your holiday destination, don't rush out into the sun and lie all day trying to get a beautiful tan on the first day because it won't happen. All you will get is burnt and that is not what you are trying to achieve, the faster you tan, the quicker it will disappear. You need a good sun blocker and work at it slowly. Preferably lie out in the morning for a couple of hours up to twelve or at the latest one because the sun is at it hottest at noon and so should be avoided because the last thing you want to do is to burn and peel. There are some that believe that the energy of the sun is more beneficial in the mornings as it builds to its climax at mid-day and is less beneficial as it wanes towards evening. There is no scientific evidence but there is a sort of crazy logic to it.
For the first few days you can still exfoliate but do not forget to moisturise and remember to drink plenty of water because you need to keep hydrated from the inside and the outside to preserve your tan for as long as possible. The longer you stay, the more you can stay out in the sun until you have built a beautiful tan.
When that dreadful time has arrived to return home, you should have a really sexy tan and you need to prolong it as long as possible. Don't exfoliate as this will start to remove your tan but keep up the moisturising to preserve it. There are pills you can buy but you would be better to use the money to but dark green vegetables that will provide the caratanoids which encourage the tanning process. Moisturising and, if you can find an hour or two to lie in the sun, will keep your tan topped up so you will look beautiful for much longer, long after your friends tan will have faded and that is really what your want.
